Anamorphic Projection

Fall 2014

Visiting Critic Studio Project

Anamorphic drawing is a drawing which appears distorted unless it is viewed from the correct angle and position.

I selected my location depending on the usual places in Slocum Hall that I am using as a student. This drawing can be viewed correctly only if the subject sits on the fourth stair of the 1st floor staircases looking towards the Slocum Hall Atrium.

This project aims to create both "seeing" and "being seen" situations in the mean time. One is able to see a part of the current setting and the reflection of their standing point on the easel. This aims to draw attention of the people to realize their existence in the context, which they ignore most of the time because there are only small clues about their existence in the environment like the vague reflection on a window.

The image is constructed as flat as possible so that the real and the reflection intermingle and one would understand that the reflection exists in the context as much as the real elements do.
